More than one million doses of a popular child vaccine is recalled, and health officials say there is no way to tell how many children across the country received the dose.

The drug manufacturer Merck is recalling HIB vaccine because it may have been contaminated with bacteria while it was being made.

The vaccine is intended to prevent meningitis, pneumonia and other serious infections.

Children that have been vaccinated with HIB, do not need to be re-vaccinated. But a contaminated dose can cause infection where the child was injected or a wider infection.

94% of toddlers in the U.S. have been vaccinated with HIB, and doctors insist there is not a great health concern.

Instead, the concern is with one million vaccines pulled from the market, some children may have to wait for the vaccine.
